Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is an increase in the amount of breast tissue in men. It can be caused by the imbalance of estrogen and testosterone hormones, genetics and use of certain medications. Symptoms can be pain, sensitivity of nipples, swollen breast tissue and tenderness.

Gynecomastia surgery removes excess fat and glandular tissue to restore flatter and firmer chest for men. Liposuction or Breast Reductions can be performed depending on the case. Advances of Liposuction gives good results with less invasive technique. However, the skill of your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon plays an important role for the results.

The procedure for treating gynecomastia with liposuction is typically performed using local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, and involves a small incision on each side of the chest. Through these incisions, your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon will remove excess fat and/or glandular tissue, at the same time sculpting a new chest contour that looks natural to your body.

After the surgery, the patients who had the surgery are given a compression garment for the recovery to support the healing process and to reduce the swelling. More severe cases of gynecomastia may require surgical tissue excision to achieve optimal results. Patients who have stretched, sagging skin around the breasts will usually require this technique. Tissue excisions allows a plastic surgeon to remove a greater amount of glandular tissue and/or skin that cannot be successfully treated with liposuction alone. The incisions are usually made around the edges of the areola or within the natural creases of the chest.

The recovery process is similar to Liposuction but it’s common to experience some soreness and swelling. Male breast reduction results are meant to be permanent. The excess fat, glandular tissue and skin removed are gone for good. If you are suffering from gynecomastia, male breast reduction could be the right solution to correct this condition and help you feel more confident.
